We first noticed the Cygnus constellation back in May, rich with exciting deep-sky objects, but it was still too low on the horizon. It sat just above the residential buildings and then above the bridge.
Meanwhile, we learned to focus our attention southward—especially from my location, where the skies are darker toward the mountainous Wulai District, while the northern direction faces the light pollution of Taipei.
Cygnus
We were fortunate to have two or three nights of clear skies in the last week of June, though the ongoing water fountain show at Bitan meant we have to hope on a call and start our sessions after 10 PM and pack up between 1-2 AM.
Here are the deep-sky objects (DSOs) we successfully imaged:
- NGC 6888, Crescent Nebula
- NGC 6992, Eastern Veil Nebula
- NGC 7000, North America Nebula
- IC 5146, Cocoon Nebula
Sagittarius
Pointing south, the difference in data quality and quantity we could collect was immediately apparent due to the darker skies in that portion of the celestial dome. We captured:
- M20, Trifid Nebula
- M8, Lagoon Nebula
- M17, Swan Nebula (also known as Omega Nebula)
- M24, Small Sagittarius Star Cloud
Other DSOs We Observed
- M27, Dumbbell Nebula in Vulpecula
- NGC 6960, Western Veil Nebula (Witch’s Broom) in Cygnus
- NGC 6781, Snowball Nebula in Aquila
I have already contacted Nick Enterprise to inquire about any news regarding the Seestar S30 Pro, as I’m really eager to image the Milky Way’s core. I’ve been looking at its location, but I want to capture it properly—I know it’s there behind the moderately light-polluted sky.
