I’ll admit it – I’m a sucker for targeted ads, and the algorithm got me again. When the Kodak Charmera appeared on my Instagram feed, I immediately asked Gerald to grab one for me from the Philippines since it wasn’t available in Taiwan at the time. I unboxed it as soon as I arrived on January 1st, and my first thought was: what an adorable little camera.
First Test – SD Card Failure
I had a spare SanDisk Extreme 256GB MicroSD card that worked perfectly with the Charmera, but unfortunately, neither my phone nor laptop could read it. Despite reformatting multiple times, I couldn’t recover the photos from my first few days in Manila – a disappointing start.

Second Attempt – Success!
After returning to Taiwan, I dug through my collection of old SD cards and finally got a SanDisk 32GB card to work. File transfer to my phone was successful this time!
Here are my first shots – both video and photo. However, I ran into another hiccup: Google Photos wouldn’t let me edit or even rotate the images, displaying an error message about “files smaller than 50px”. I had to find an alternative editing tool to fix the orientation.
Kodak Charmera vs. Pixel 9a Photo Comparison
Another new gadget waiting for me in Taiwan was the Pixel 9a, which replaced my Sony Xperia 10V. While these two devices aren’t really comparable, I thought it would be fun to share some side-by-side shots anyway:

Scenic Riverside Cycling Photos with the Charmera
I took the Charmera along on my weekend riverside cycling trips around Taipei. I kept it in my vest pocket for easy access – it’s too small for my backpack, and digging it out each time would have been a hassle.
The camera features built-in filters, including black and white and sepia options, which add a nice vintage touch to the photos.

I won’t dive deep into technical specs, I’m not savvy, but you can learn more about the Kodak Charmera on their official website.
I know part of the Charmera craze is the blind box experience and the excitement of discovering which style you’ll get, but for me, that was just a bonus.
